25 Reasons to Read More Everyday

With the recent rise of social media, reading has taken a back seat to browsing social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Who can blame them? Reading takes a lot of time and effort. It’s not an activity that people with a short attention span can easily engage in. I can’t blame them. It’s much easier to open the Facebook or Instagram app and scroll through hundreds upon hundreds of posts that are attention-grabbing and informative. Not to mention the dopamine affect your brain receives when you get a like or a share, it’s extremely addictive. Compared to the dopamine effect, reading requires a lot more patient and effort.

Statistics state, “on average, Americans aged 20 to 34 spend a mere 0.11 hours reading daily, which amounts to less than seven minutes per day. Although the time spent reading increases in the older generations, the general trend is worrying – an overall average of only 0.28 hours is spent reading per day.” With these statistics in mind, we decided to list some of the reasons to read books to encourage more people to pick up the activity in their everyday life. Without further ado, let’s get started!

  1. Reading teaches people patience.
  2. Reading forces you to think critically.
  3. Reading allows you to take on a different role.
  4. Reading introduces you to different characters unlike yours.
  5. Reading allows people to learn from others.
  6. Reading is informative.
  7. Reading allows you to understand the struggles of others.
  8. Reading introduces you to different ideas.
  9. Reading allows you a window to a different time in the world.
  10. Reading improves your attention span.
  11. Reading allows you to form your own opinions.
  12. Reading gives you more topics for conversations.
  13. Reading allows you to experience the different emotions of the characters.
  14. Reading teaches you about difficult times in the world.
  15. Reading gives you courage.
  16. Reading can help transform your life for the better.
  17. Reading builds your communication skills.
  18. Reading allows people to be vulnerable.
  19. Reading allows for a better discussion with others.
  20. Books can be reference points for debates.
  21. Reading allows you to form constructive feedback.
  22. Reading improves your vocabulary.
  23. Reading allows an in-depth understanding of people and ideas.
  24. Reading improves your comprehension skills.
  25. Reading improves your writing skills.

These are just a few of the reasons to read. There are many other reasons to pick up a book and start reading. Don’t hesitate to pick up a book. I know it can be daunting at first, especially if it’s been a while since you’ve read. But like everything else, it takes practice. If you find a book that is not interesting, pick up another one. Never hesitate to start a new book. There are a lot of chose from.

Thanks for Reading
